Contributions to the Research & Society

We are interested in how oxidants cause damages to cells and tissues within our body. The aerobic metabolism of our body produces oxidants as byproducts. Evidence has suggested that excessive oxidants contribute to cancer, heart disease and many other diseases. Work in our laboratory aims to identify genes and proteins that are altered by oxidants and play a role in the disease states. In parallel with the mechanistic study of oxidative stress at the cellular and molecular level, we also actively search for pharmacological agents that can protect cells from oxidative stress.
