The knowledge gained through these studies will highlight how exposure to environmental polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons found in tobacco smoke, auto exhaust, and industrial pollution may contribute to the onset of sporadic breast cancer, which represent the majority of breast cancer cases. A possible outcome is the development of prevention strategies to counteract the effects of exposure to this class of environmental agents.
